Safety on the Run

Lights

BE SAFE - BE SEEN

All veteran cars taking part in the Run must be properly lit to ensure they are clearly visible. Those magnificent brass or chrome lights on the veteran machines were designed at a time when there was far less traffic on the roads and used the technology available at the time – from candlepower upwards! For today’s traffic conditions additional lighting is required. Happily it’s never been easier to source rechargeable USB lights – often sold for bicycles – which can be securely fixed to your veteran vehicle and fulfil the requirement perfectly.

Please also carry a high-vis vest and warning triangle – the latter is a compulsory requirement of the Highway Code

TAKE FIRE-FIGHTING PRECAUTIONS

We also strongly recommend that all vehicles taking part in the Run should be in possession of a valid fire extinguisher or fire stick. Please take the time to familiarise yourself and your adult passengers in advance with the operating instructions for the fire extinguisher/fire stick, as precious time can otherwise be lost in an emergency.

View Fire Safety Stick demonstration video below, and click here to learn how to use a Fire Safety Stick

INDEPENDENT VEHICLE CHECKS

We would like to remind all entrants that it is their responsibility to ensure the vehicle they are driving has been properly prepared and maintained by someone with experience in veteran vehicles and entrants should consider whether an MOT would be advisable. All vehicles must be roadworthy and meet the legal requirements to run on public roads in the UK. It is always recommended that an independent test of tyres, important split pins, brakes and steering, etc. is made on a regular basis.

WATCH THE SAFETY FILM

All participants of the Run are required to watch the Safety Film before taking part each year. It covers all aspects of the Run to help ensure participants a safe passage to the Madeira Drive finish line.
