Exquisite Taste of Harrods Food Halls at Crawley
Iconic department store, Harrods, is poised to take to the road once again and join in this year’s Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox for only the fourth time in its history. The first time the Knightsbridge establishment took part was in the inaugural emancipation run of 1896.
After purchasing and restoring an original 1901 Pope Waverley car in 2013, Harrods Store Operations Director James Healy will be joined at the wheel by Store Finance Director, Simon Davies, to drive Harrods through what is hoped will be another successful Run. However, with many twisting roads and steep hills, not to mention a maximum of 18mph, this will be no mean feat for the Harrodian team to conquer.
Furthermore, Harrods is proud to officially sponsor the event with its luxury pop-up ‘pit-stop’ for drivers, located within Official Car Supplier Honda Gatwick’s car dealership in Crawley. Harrods will be offering a taste of its exquisite Food Halls at the halfway stop with much-needed hot drinks and pastries in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
The Veteran Car Run has elected an official charity partner: The Movember Foundation. This year, we come together for a purpose, to tackle men’s health issues.
The Movember Foundation is the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale, year-round. They’re addressing some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, and rates are on the rise. By 2030 there’ll be 1.7 million men living with prostate cancer. It’s already killing hundreds of thousands of men each year, and those who survive face serious side effects.
By 2030 the Movember Foundation will halve the number of men dying from prostate cancer and the number of men facing serious ongoing side effects from prostate cancer treatment.
In most cases, the outcome for men with testicular cancer is positive, but a 95% chance of survival is no comfort to the 1 man in 20 who won’t make it. When testicular cancer strikes, it strikes young. Most of those men are between 15 and 40 years old.
By 2030 the Movember Foundation will halve the number of men dying from testicular cancer and the number of men facing serious ongoing side effects from testicular cancer treatment.
Mental health and suicide prevention
Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Around the world, on average we lose a man to suicide every minute of every day. Three out of four suicides are men. Too many are toughing it out and struggling alone.
By 2030 the Movember Foundation will reduce the rate of male suicides by 25%.
Together, The Veteran Car Run and the Movember Foundation are committed to tackling these issues, but we need your help.
Calling on all participants, supporters, and marshals to rally the troops and join the movement. Get your tender vehicle drivers, co-pilots, and friends and family to join your Movember team.

Honda to Host Crawley Refreshment Stop
Honda dealerships located in Crawley and Redhill are once again proudly supporting the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox as the Official Vehicle Suppliers.
Honda has nearly 200 retailers throughout the United Kingdom and the event is delighted to be associated with such a prestigious and exclusive brand.
Throughout the weekend the dealerships will jointly provide a fleet of official course cars and for the very first time in the Runs history, the Honda Gatwick dealership (located in Crawley) will be hosting the Harrods Stop at Crawley. This will not only provide a larger paddock area for all the veteran cars but a very much needed warm refreshment area inside for all participants.
Since 2012 Honda Redhill has provided a safe place to stop along the route with its mechanics always willing to lend a hand for an oil change or a push up the hill and we are very grateful for their continued support of the event.
Hagerty are the UK's leading Veteran, vintage and classic car insurance brokers. Hagerty have been the insurance partner to the Bonhams Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox for over a decade. Whilst this is a mere fraction of time compared to the longevity of the event itself, Hagerty has found their relationship with the event, the participants, organisers, volunteers and spectators has grown rapidly.
The Hagerty team have been enthusiastic passengers on a number of occasions in fabulous De Dion Boutons, De Dietrich and Oldsmobiles in the past. Hagerty has also developed a happy and mutually beneficial partnership with the Veteran Car Club or Great Britain and were delighted to have been awarded the Chairman’s Trophy for their support of the Club and dedication to the historic vehicle movement earlier this year. The award is rarely presented, in fact the last time it was back in 1985. The Hagerty team have become good friends with a number of the members and it has always been a joy to see many of them at the Participants’ Reception, supported by Hagerty, at the Royal Automobile Club on the eve of the Run itself.
Hagerty is also delighted that the Hagerty Achievement Award, dedicated to a party or parties who are annually recognised for their dedication to the veteran car movement, has also proved to be a successful addition to the partnership with the Run and past recipients have shown great delight in its presentation to them. The passion, enjoyment and friendly approach shown by all the people involved with this event is what classic motoring is all about.

The company’s rich history dates back to the 1920’s and since then Total's engineers have been catering to the needs and specifications of generations of engines, right up to the multiple F1 world championship wins in collaboration with Williams, Renault and Red Bull.
With experts on hand to talk about how modern oil technology is vital to the longevity of veteran engines, Total will be at the start of the Run in Hyde Park and will provide two oil stations en route, at the Honda Redhill assist point and the Harrods stop at Crawley, the official half way point.
The Total mobile welding unit will continue to support the RAC along the route.
New Era for the VCR
The Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox is one of the world’s longest standing and most famous historic motor car events, and Bonhams is delighted to partner the Royal Automobile Club as title sponsor.
This is the fourteenth year that Bonhams auctioneers has been a sponsor, although we have supported the Run for many years prior to that by providing the much-welcomed mulled wine and hot chilli on arrival at the finish line in Brighton.
Most of the team at Bonhams participate on the Run, with many driving their own motor cars. We are not just auctioneers, but very much active enthusiasts who enjoy – like our clients and customers – the hobby of old motoring.
Over these past 14 years, Bonhams has worked with the Royal Automobile Club and event organisers to develop the Run from a single day attraction to an entire weekend.
The weekend now commences on the Friday with the annual Bonhams sale of London to Brighton eligible motor cars and early automobilia. Some motor cars in the auction are even offered with an entry into the Run, so you can "buy on Friday, drive on Sunday".
In 2017 the Sale was held at Bonhams headquarters in London’s New Bond Street – just a short walk away from the start of the Run in Hyde Park – where 26 carefully selected vehicles went under the hammer. The Sale was a huge success and all bar one found new homes.
Bonhams Chairman, Robert Brooks, a lifelong fan of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, said:
"The annual London to Brighton Run is an historic and globally-renowned event that I have grown up with and which brings back many a fond memory.
I have always loved this event, and it is one which we as a company are extremely proud to have helped sustain. We are honoured to be the event’s main sponsor and look forward to many more years’ involvement with it."
