PRESS RELEASE 31/03/2016

New title for the world’s longest running motoring event: the Bonhams Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox

Organisers of the world’s longest running motoring event are delighted to announce a three-year partnership with global specialist insurer Hiscox.
Most visibly, this exciting new collaboration will see the annual London to Brighton pilgrimage renamed as the Bonhams Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox. The far-reaching Supporting Partner alliance, though, will run much deeper with a number of activations in the days leading up to the historic Run which, as tradition dictates, takes place on the first Sunday in November.
Immediately after the regular Friday afternoon Bonhams auction, Hiscox will host a special gathering for VCR participants at the Royal Automobile Club. Hiscox will also be assisting newcomers to the event by presenting the First Timers’ Guide and the First Timers’ Briefing that takes place in the Club on the Saturday afternoon.
Ben Cussons, Chairman of the Veteran Car Run Steering Group said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Hiscox as a supporting partner to the Run. Hiscox’s global business reach simply underlines the international appeal of the Veteran Car Run and we are delighted to have them on board.’
The extensive partnership boasts plenty of synergies, too. Hiscox has a 100-year heritage of insuring complex and unusual risks and is actively increasing its presence in the prestige, vintage and classic car sector.
The Run also boasts more than a century of remarkable history. Indeed, this year marks the 120th anniversary of the very first ‘Emancipation Run’ from London to Brighton. The original expedition from capital to coast was organised in November 1896 by an enthusiastic group of motoring pioneers to celebrate the passing into law of the Locomotives on the Highway Act, which raised the speed limit for ‘light locomotives’ from 4mph to 14mph and abolished the need for the vehicles to be preceded by a man carrying a red flag.
Richard Watson, Chief Underwriting Officer, Hiscox Group said: "For 100 years Hiscox has been insuring our customer's most treasured possessions. This ranges from their high value homes, to their collections, whether that is fine art, veteran, vintage or classic cars. We appreciate the importance our clients attach to these items; each one is treasured and loved. This is not just understanding their financial value, but the value in their design, their beauty, their originality and how that resonates with us. As an enthusiast myself, here's to a great day for all those taking part".
The Run is just one element of the Royal Automobile Club’s London Motor Week – a seven-day celebration of motoring, which includes an art exhibition, motoring heritage lectures, a motoring forum and a motoring book awards evening. The penultimate event in the week is the free-to-view Regent Street Motor Show, on Saturday 5 November, turning London’s premier shopping street into a motoring showcase that puts the spotlight on veterans and moderns alike, before the week is rounded off with the Club’s premier event – the 120th anniversary Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox.
