THE TEAMSThe Royal Automobile Club
Educated at Daniel Stewart’s College Edinburgh, Tom completed a Student Engineering Apprenticeship at Rolls-Royce Car Division before spending a total of 19 years with the marque at home and overseas. In 1985 he joined the BMW Group as Sales Director in Britain and became Managing Director four years later. After a period at Rover Group he took responsibility for BMW Groups Commercial Operations in the USA and the Americas. Career postings to Switzerland, Kuwait and the USA provided international experience. Tom retired from the Position of CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in Goodwood (a BMW Company) in Spring of 2010.
After retiring from the BMW Group Tom has been involved with several activities. As an Advisory Council Member of Lotus Cars Ltd, a visiting Professor at Canterbury Christchurch University and a Trustee of On Course Foundation provide continuing links with the motor industry, golf and education. Board Membership of the Motor Sports Association and Chairmanship of The Royal Automobile Club and Scottish Motor Sport are outlets for energy spent on topics of lifelong interest.
Tom has first-hand experience of the Veteran Car Run and successfully drove the 1901 Mors from London to Brighton in 2012 and 2013. He is a great supporter of this historic motoring tradition and wants to ensure its continual success by encouraging the support of entrants from near and far, young and old to take up this great motoring challenge.
